Instructional Space
The Office of Instructional Development works closely with Academic Scheduling to ensure that faculty interested in developing interactive teaching strategies that optimize the use of the Flex Classrooms are given priority assignment in these rooms. The classrooms that OID has priority scheduling in are Surge Building 171 (seats 31 minimum/46 maximum), Surge Building 172 (seats 31minimum/46 maximum), Surge Building 173 (seats 31 minimum/46 maximum), CHASS INTS 1121 (seats 30 minimum/45 maximum), INTS 1125 (seats 20 minimum/30 maximum). These "Flex" classrooms have features that go beyond the basic setup and media offered in the "Smart Classrooms." The tables and chairs in these classrooms are movable, allowing configurations not only for a traditional lecture but also for small group and split classroom activities. White boards are mounted all around each classroom, further enhancing collaborative and active learning activities.

To insure that the Flex Classrooms are being used by instructors who will optimize the resources of the rooms, priority scheduling will be given to requests that clearly define pedagogy that encourages student engagement through the use of the Flex Classroom space and technologies. Scheduling will be available for approved requests on a space-available basis in consultation with the Office of the Registrar. If you have questions regarding the Flex Classrooms please contact gladis@ucr.edu
